William “Bill” Owens (November 14, 1901 – May 5, 1999) began his baseball career in 1923 as a shortstop for the Washington Potamacs in the Eastern Colored League. He later played for the Memphis Red Sox and spent eight years with the Indianapolis ABC’s and Detroit Stars. Noted for his versatility and strong arm, Owens also pitched and played third base during his 12-year career. His signature appears on an Indianapolis ABC’s reproduction letterhead from over 27 years ago; supplies are limited.
